In September, 2005 Rattle the Cage and The Wildlife Care Center of Fort Lauderdale pulled our resources and sent five rescue workers and three vehicles (loaded with supplies) to the heart of the Hurricane Katrina disaster.
Tim Gorski and a small crew spent three weeks rescuing cats and dogs from the Lower 9th Ward in New Orleans. The area was completely underwater when they arrived. The crew set up camp in a Winn Dixie parking lot and in the following weeks rescued over 50 animals, many of which were reunited with families. Those not reunited were adopted out to good homes.
Tim Gorski's story and photos follow.
